Solidarity and Mission

“Mission takes place where people interact with people, seeking to overcome all that separates us from one another and from God.”

- CANACOM  (Caribbean & North American Council for Mission)

“We promote community through the works that we undertake and through our personal presence among those we serve...

We perceive our call particularly in hearing the needs of our brothers and sisters in the human community and attending them...

We engage in those forms of ministry which show preference for the poor and neglected...

We direct our efforts particularly toward changing the unjust structures which perpetuate dehumanizing situations...”

Border Encounter

Since 2017, the community has sponsored sojourns to the Lower Rio Grande Valley near the US/Mexico border, where four of our Sisters live. Participants gain a glimpse of what life is like for people there, as well as a look at the ecology of the area, which is located at the convergence of two major migratory bird flyways.

One World Mission Fund

In fidelity to the Gospel and recognizing the inherent dignity and equality of every person, the Franciscan Sisters–as healers, peacemakers and unifiers–seek to be in relationship with the poor and marginalized of the world through ministries that address essential needs for human development, restore right relationships with all of creation, advance the cause of peace and justice, and witness to faith and hope in a loving God.

The sisters established the One World Mission Grant Fund to support efforts both here and abroad to further the goal of creating a global community. The fund supports projects, programs and ministries where the sisters are involved or where the sisters served in the past and the relationship continues. Requests must be sponsored by a Franciscan Sister.
