News release from the U.S. Small Business Administration:
Carol Anderson of Community Development of Morrison County is the 2025 SBA Minnesota Women in Business Champion of the Year
The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Carol Anderson of Morrison County as the 2025 SBA Minnesota Women in Business Champion of the Year. In recognition of National Small Business Week, SBA’s Minnesota District will recognize its 2025 state winners locally in the weeks ahead.
“We are thrilled to recognize Carol Anderson for her efforts in uplifting Minnesota’s women-owned small businesses,” said SBA Minnesota District Director Brian McDonald. “Carol’s dedication to supporting women entrepreneurs, facilitating business growth, and strengthening economic opportunities has made a significant impact in Morrison County and beyond. Her leadership and advocacy exemplify the spirit of entrepreneurship and community service.”
For over 20 years, Carol has been a dedicated advocate for small businesses, partnering with key organizations, such as the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), SCORE, Minnesota Business Finance Corporation (MBFC), and the Women’s Business Center, to provide essential resources to entrepreneurs. Currently serving as chairwoman of the MBFC Board, she plays an integral role in statewide and national economic development initiatives, including attending the National Association of Development Companies (NADCO) Conference annually.
Under Carol’s leadership, Community Development of Morrison County has grown into a critical resource for business financing and economic expansion. Originally established as a committee of the Little Falls Chamber of Commerce 57 years ago, the organization has since expanded to serve the entire Morrison County area as a nonprofit 501(c)(6). It now administers over $2 million in loan funds, offering businesses access to gap lending, industrial revenue bonds, SBA and USDA loan guarantees, tax increment financing, and other innovative funding solutions.
Since 1997, the organization has financed over 90 businesses and supported 100 loan projects, making a lasting impact on local economic development. Beyond financing, Carol has helped adapt the organization’s mission to meet modern workforce challenges, advocating for job creation while addressing labor shortages. Through partnerships with regional colleges and workforce development centers, she has helped businesses access training and skilled employees, reinforcing Morrison County’s reputation for a hardworking and dependable labor force.
Through her relentless efforts, Carol has not only helped businesses secure essential financing but has also played a pivotal role in shaping the local economy. Her work continues to make Morrison County a thriving hub for small business success.
“Carol Anderson has provided a critical role in Morrison County for economic development and as a Women in Business Champion. Carol is the connector and promoter of all things business related, not only in Morrison County but Statewide. Her background and education continue to contribute to the financial health of the county, downtown vitality and numerous business/industrial parks that are filled with active job creating businesses. I personally believe that several businesses in Morrison County are the direct result of Carol's involvement and connection to resources and dedication to their success. In addition to her business accomplishments, she is a brilliant organist, creative and talented artist and friend to neighbors in need. Her farming roots were developed throughout her childhood and she's never lost the belief in the importance and value of ‘farmers,’” said Sandy Voigt, director of the Women’s Business Alliance, who nominated Carol for the award.
