As we enter 2025, many are finding it difficult to keep hope alive. The reality of climate change, political polarization, racism, Christian nationalism, economic disparity and other concerns is ever present. We know in our bones that we are called to step up and serve as beacons of light, but how do we find the way forward? And how do we find the courage, resilience and like-minded individuals to help us do the work? It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and use the common refrain, “What can one person do?”
One thing you can do is attend our upcoming retreat, Navigating Transitions. Together we will explore four interrelated questions:
- In the face of disruption, how do we lead from a place of compassion and wise response to participate in the emerging future?
- What framework will guide and accompany us toward the emerging future?
- How will we connect with companions who can lead and share the Journey with us?
- What practices can help us act with purpose and intention, as co-creators bringing gifts of wholeness and healing into the world?
Our presenter is Reverend Dr. Terry Chapman, director of Convening Communities at The Center for Purposeful Leadership. Terry has served Presbyterian Churches in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Edinburgh, Scotland, and he is a spiritual director, retreat leader and poet. Terry's book Sabbath Pause was published in 2012. He also leads regular pilgrimages to Uganda where he works with an NGO serving children. Terry says he loves to nurture “holding places” where people can remember the natural insight, warmth and courage that dwells in each person.
Taking place January 20-24 at the campus of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, this retreat is offered both in-person and by Zoom. We’ll have two sessions Monday through Thursday (9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.) and one morning session on Friday (9 a.m.). The retreat will be recorded so if you find you’re unable to attend every session, the link will be sent to all participants for later viewing.

We hope you will be able to join us for this meaningful gathering and learn more about how you can not only regain your own sense of hope, but find the courage to lead others along the way.
