Sister Ade Kroll reflects on the All-Community Gathering in October:
The presentation on American Indians brought home to me and confirmed in me the beautiful message carried in the mysticism in the Universe Story.
Our tradition has always had the mystics, the mavericks that went beyond the patriarchal and limited traditions.
Shamans, thousands of years ago, were the first mystics—native/indigenous/original humans. Their connection was with stars, the moon that was really huge then, and the earth.
I see how those spiritual unfoldings are still struggling to be maintained, explored, and developed today, despite efforts at genocide and destruction of people’s culture and spirituality.
What amazes me is that through the Universe Story there is like a leap over the last centuries—back into their rich mysticism—the mysticisms humans were meant to contribute to the unfolding of the Incarnating Spirit within and among us. Their mysticism saw all as sacred, unique, relational—all as one in a community revealing the Great Spirit among and within us. Our tradition has objectified the sacred. We do not walk and unfold in an ocean of sacred. We have sacred objects—Bible, host, relics and other things that we control.
But to know prayer as walking in that ocean of sacred, participating in that revelation of sacred—with a whole community of beings—what an awesome way to contribute to that consciousness shift we are in now—and need so much help! Then “all my relatives” is real. Not just words.
May the stardust you are unfold in new ways that promote life in you!
