Prayer & Public Witness for Immigrants and a Just Economy
Justice promoters across congregations have heard the deep desire of sisters, associates, and allies of women religious to take bold action in light of the actions of our current government, including mass and unlawful deportations, dismantling of public institutions and environmental protections, and the current budget debate that includes sweeping cuts to Medicaid and SNAP programs.
We are inviting all sisters, associates, staff, and allies to participate in a June 24 public prayer in Washington D.C. If you are unable to join us in Washington, D.C., you can plan an Echo Event before or after June 24 in your local area. Planning materials will be shared, including prayers and a communications toolkit. You can sign on directly as a co-sponsor (no financial commitment necessary).
When: Tuesday, June 24, 2025
● Gather at 10:00 a.m.
● Event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude by 12:30 p.m.
Why: Our commitment to the Gospel, our missions, and charisms urge us to respond to the federal budget reconciliation process that threatens to defund vital programs for the most vulnerable members of our community.
Additional Day-of Details: We will pray the rosary as we walk to several spots on the U.S. Capitol grounds. The event will include a press conference, including sisters speaking about immigration and economic justice, and the option to do a “leave behind” to U.S. Senators.
Register: Click HERE to indicate you will attend Sisters Speak Out in the U.S. Capitol as an individual or as a congregation.
