News about Casa Maria

ObispoSister Isa Berrones

Saint Francis says in his first rule: “Let us return all our goods to the Lord God Most High and Supreme, and let us recognize that all goods are from him, and let us give thanks for all things to him, from whom all goods come.”
(1R 17:17)

With joy and gratitude, we celebrated the second year of Casa Maria on August 23. We had a Mass celebrated by Monsignor Hilario Gonzalez, Bishop of the Diocese of Saltillo. Friends, families and students were present on this occasion. After the spiritual table we went to the material table where we shared chicken salad, fruit cocktail, hibiscus water and a delicious cake donated by Juan and Rosalinda, a couple who support the Casa Maria project in different ways.

We thank God for all the blessings we have received in these two years. We also thank the many people whose generosity and solidarity make it possible for the Casa Maria project to continue developing and benefiting the higher education of young women from low income that live in rural areas.

Pastel 2In this second semester of the year, four students are benefiting; three have been here since last year, and a new student entered in August. Her name is Alondra Guadalupe and she is from Comitán, Chiapas, in the south of the country. She started her career as a biotechnology engineer. Unfortunately, after three weeks of classes, the school where she entered began a labor strike. Alondra had to return to her town, where she receives online classes. She will not be returning to Casa Maria until the problem at the university is resolved and in-person classes return.

While Alondra had to return to her town, the other three students have returned to Casa Maria after the summer vacation. They are Victoria, Devany and Rosario. They have returned with great enthusiasm to continue their classes. Their parents are also happy with the good progress of their daughters in their studies and the good results they have obtained, especially that their daughters live in a safe place.

Thanks be to God and thanks to all the people who contribute to this valuable and noble ministry. May God multiply each one of you abundantly. May your greatest reward be the joy of contributing to the education of women so that they may have a better future and contribute professionally to the good of our society.
