St. Francis Music Center awards $100 scholarships

Five young women, all members of the St. Francis orchestras, have been awarded the Sister Judine Cassidy Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year. Congratulations, Sarah Leisenheimer, Hannah Miller, Vera Miller, Marissa Throener and Brianna Wuebkers!

In their award letters, Robyn Gray said, “Among many other accomplishments, Sister Judine served as the principal of St. Francis High School from 1960 to 1977. You may not realize it, but the building in which the Music Center is located was built by the sisters to be a high school for girls—both boarding students and day students. Between 1922 and 1977, when the school closed, 2,358 young women received education here in academics, arts, music, drama and sports. Sister Judine was very beloved by the students, sisters and families. When she died in 2013, all these people set up a scholarship fund in her honor, and you five have been chosen because of your talent, dedication and positive attitudes. A former student of Sister Judine said this about her: ‘She was an educator in the truest sense of the word. She urged each young girl to find her voice and lead. She inspired a love of learning and she sent us off into the world with a clear sense of our responsibility to make this world a better place.’”

The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota, is a community of Catholic women religious who follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ, walking in the footsteps of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi. We believe that the living of a poor, simple and prayerful community life is a ministry of presence and witness. Our doors are open to the public to celebrate Mass in Sacred Heart Chapel and to benefit from the St. Francis Music Center and St. Francis Health & Recreation Center. We welcome those who wish to join us as sisters, associates, volunteers, transfer sisters, friends and donors.
