The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls will honor Sister Doretta Meier, who will celebrate 50 years as a Franciscan Sister on Sunday, August 9. A Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls, followed by a dinner and reception for invited guests.
Sister Doretta entered the novitiate at St. Francis Convent in Hankinson, N. Dak., July 1965, and made her final profession of vows on August 10, 1971. On March 19, 1986, Sister Doretta transferred from the Franciscan Sisters of Hankinson, North Dakota, to the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota.
Originally from the Zeeland, N. Dak., area, Sister Doretta has ministered in healthcare; primarily in areas of administration in both hospitals and nursing homes located in North Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois and Ohio. She has been involved in the healthcare ministry for most of her 50 years in Community and currently continues in this ministry as a hospital board member. She also served on the Leadership Team for the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls from 2006-2011.
In reflection of her 50 years in religious life, she says, “It is with many treasured memories of God’s overflowing goodness that I celebrate my 50th jubilee as a Franciscan Sister. These memories fill my heart with gratitude, peace and joy.”
