Sister Mary Fabian Schneider’s birthday celebration

Deanna Boone, CRD

Sister Mary Fabian Schneider celebrated her 100th birthday (five days early) on Sunday, July 5, surrounded by sisters, family and friends. She helped plan the liturgy, chose the menu, invited her great niece to sing and gave full attention to her many guests. The day was filled with surprises: letters of congratulations from the bishop, governor and the Obamas; dedication of a bench in the courtyard, made by her grand nephew; and a serenade in Polish by three nephews. Among the guests were Bishop Bartholome’s niece and Sister Jeremiah Trutwin’s family. It was a celebration of great joy!

Patrick Schneider was one of Sister Mary Fabian’s nephews who sang. He had this to say to Sister Christelle Watercott via email, “Just wanted to say thank you to the Franciscan community for the beautiful celebration for Sister. It was an honor to be a part of it. It is good to know that the sisters think as much (or more) of her as the Schneider clan.”
