Youth, young adults focus on Donor Appreciation Day

Deanna Boone, CRD

One of the songs for Sunday’s Mass included the words, “Summoned by the God who made us rich in our diversity, gathered in the name of Jesus, richer still in unity.” It was interspersed with phrases like “dare to dream the vision,” “weave a song of peace and justice,” “trust the goodness of creation,” “trust the spirit strong within.” With that as inspiration, this year’s Donor Appreciation Day welcomed about 232 guests along with you sisters and several volunteers and musicians. Some of your family members said that the program was “the best ever.”

Our thanks for making it a successful day go to many people who are “doing what is theirs to do”—and beyond. Our sincere thanks especially to Sister Jean Schwieters for a meaningful liturgy, homilist Sister Cordy Korkowski and program presenters Sister Ange Mayers about the Girls Camp, Pat Schlauderaff and volunteer Kristin Wall about the FCV program, Sister Ruth Lentner about the garden-to-cafeteria program and Robyn Gray about St. Francis Music Center. Thanks also to Sister Michelle L’Allier who emceed the program and Liz Rydeen who organized the photos and flow. Kudos, too, to our nutrition services staff and many volunteers who served a delicious meal.

As Sister Helen Weier, OSC, said afterward, “Who needed dessert when we had a program like that?!” Knowing that your Franciscan charism and values are being shared liberally and energetically with young people is a gift to the greater world. Thank you to each one of you!

The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota, is a community of Catholic women religious who follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ, walking in the footsteps of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi. We believe that the living of a poor, simple and prayerful community life is a ministry of presence and witness. Our doors are open to the public to celebrate Mass in Sacred Heart Chapel and to benefit from the St. Francis Music Center and St. Francis Health & Recreation Center. We welcome those who wish to join us as sisters, associates, volunteers, transfer sisters, friends and donors.
