May Day Party: Volunteer Appreciation 2014

Kathy Whittington, Volunteer Coordinator

The red carpet was rolled out in honor of the FSLF volunteers who enjoyed the music of Charlie Roth during dinner and a show after the last DQ Cupcake was eaten. The dinner menu featured Chicken Saltimbocca, May Pole Wild Rice with Key Largo Veggies and a beautiful May Day Salad lovingly prepared by Nutrition Services and served by sisters and employees.

Our volunteers served the equivalent number of hours of seven (7) full time employees! Imagine the savings and the contribution to our ministries. “Thank you” were the words from everyone heard throughout the evening.

A special guest appearance from Saint Francis (Sister Elise Saggau) highlighted the evening as chimes were played and a song was sung  during the Canticle of Creation as Saint Francis walked around the seven beautiful wooden Elements (made by Elizabeth Roberts) saying the prayer he wrote so long ago.

May 1st was the National Day of Prayer so Sister Maurita Bernet led all 210 volunteers and sisters in a song before our meal: “Oh you who clothe the lilies and feed the birds of the sky, who lead the lambs to pasture and the deer to the water side, who multiplied loaves and fishes and turned water to wine, Oh, come to our table as giver and as out guest to dine.”

Edible organic orchids graced the tables and salads, tissue paper flowers hung everywhere and smiles and laughter filled St. Francis Hall and we were blessed.

The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota, is a community of Catholic women religious who follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ, walking in the footsteps of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi. We believe that the living of a poor, simple and prayerful community life is a ministry of presence and witness. Our doors are open to the public to celebrate Mass in Sacred Heart Chapel and to benefit from the St. Francis Music Center and St. Francis Health & Recreation Center. We welcome those who wish to join us as sisters, associates, volunteers, transfer sisters, friends and donors.
