The eldest of 11 children, Sister Janice Wiechman grew up on a farm near St. Rosa, Minn. She has been involved in Hispanic ministry since 1981, which has taken her to Venezuela, Chicago and now Mexico. She was one of four Franciscan Sisters who started the mission in San Rafael, Mexico, in 2003. In 2011 she moved to Monterrey and presently lives with Sisters Mary and Ange. She’s involved in visiting and bringing communion to homebound people in a very poor section of Monterey. She also tutors children at a neighborhood education center. With sisters of other religious communities and the Vocations Office in Monterrey, she enjoys companioning young women in their vocational discernment.
