Sister Ruth Lentner

We honored Sister Ruth Lentner in the celebration of her silver jubilee as a Franciscan Sister of Little Falls on Sunday, June 3, 2007. A Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at the Franciscan Motherhouse in Little Falls. Following the Mass her invited guests will enjoy a luncheon and reception.

Sister Ruth is the daughter of George and Celestine Lentner of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Gilman. A celebration at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish will be held on Sunday, June 10, 8 a.m.

Sister Ruth entered the novitiate at St. Francis Convent on May 9, 1982. She made her first profession of vows on May 20, 1982, and her final profession of vows on June 7, 1987.

Since entering the Franciscan Community, Sister Ruth has earned a bachelor of science degree in Horticulture from North Dakota State University, Fargo, N. Dak. She has ministered as a horticulture intern, interior plant technician, landscape maintenance worker, foreign missionary, gardener and landscape advisor. She has served in Richfield, Newport, Minneapolis and Little Falls, Minn. and Managua, Nicaragua.

Sister Ruth is very involved with the preservation of small family farms. She contributes her expertise to this by being a board member of Citizens Organized Acting Together (COACT) and is on the board of the Sustainable Farming Association (SFA) since 1998. COACT is the longest lived citizens action group in Minnesota. She has a deep love and appreciation for Mother Earth. In her ministry as advisor to the care for the grounds of the Franciscan Sisters campus in Little Falls, she cares for the convent vegetable garden and orchard sustainably and organically, as well as giving advice to other areas of concern as they arise.

Sister Marcella Schuller

We honored Sister Marcella Schuller on her 75th anniversary as a Franciscan Sister of Little Falls on Sunday, July 15. A Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated at the Franciscan Motherhouse in Little Falls.

Sister Marcella entered the novitiate of St. Francis Convent on August 12, 1932. She made her first profession of vows on August 10, 1934, and her final vows on August 12, 1938.

She was born in Minneapolis, Minn. She graduated as a registered nurse from St. Francis School of Nursing, Breckenridge, Minn. She earned her anesthesia diploma from St. John’s School of Anesthesiology, Springfield, Ill. and her clinical pastoral certificate from the University of Minnesota. She has ministered as a staff nurse, anesthetist supervisor, inhalation therapist, parish minister, chaplain and home health caregiver. She served in Milwaukee and Darlington, Wis.; Perham, Breckenridge, Little Falls, Sauk Centre, Alexandria, Richfield, St. Paul and Little Falls, Minn.; Springfield, Mo.; Plattsburgh, N.Y.; Tucson, Ariz. and Vietnam.
