Following in the footprints

“Following in the footprints of Jesus” was the theme for our Spring “Come and See” weekend for young women of high school age. According to the participants, it was an “awesome experience” to visit and pray with the Sisters and to make new friends. These youth also learned about the values and life of St. Francis through dramatization of several scenes from his life. They were touched by the amazing vocation stories told by several of the Sisters. More lively interchange happened in the evening while the young women enjoyed frosting and decorating St. Patrick’s Day cookies in the convent kitchen with the Sisters.

Young students learn about Saints Francis and Clare
by Sister Clara Stang

St. Francis and St. Clare are favorites of everyone. While they lived over 800 years ago, their spirit lives on today. Franciscan Sisters, Brothers and Priests live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We fashion our lives according to the example of Saints Francis and Clare.

Recently, I had the opportunity to speak to children about these two great saints. I enjoyed meeting the students from St. Michael’s school in St. Michael, St. Peter’s School in Delano, the Academy of Saints Peter and Paul in Loretta and St. Francis Xavier School in Buffalo. I encouraged them to pray, so that they might be guided to do what Jesus wants them to do with their lives. Perhaps some of them might be called to become Franciscans.
