Saturday, May 16, was a celebration of the ministry of Clare's Well in Annandale returning to our Motherhouse in Little Falls. A vivid image of this going home was that of the signature red well leaving on the Motherhouse truck driven by Sister Mary Pat Burger. This now old and fragile wooden well was built by Sister Carol Schmit's brother, Bill, in June of 1991. The well will now rest by the labyrinth and flower gardens south of the orchard as a visible sign of the ongoing ministry of hospitality nourished by Franciscan Sisters and by Mother Earth with food for body and spirit near a chapel and hermitages. Clare's Well was born of the Franciscan Sisters in 1988 through Sisters Aggie Soenneker and Carol Schmit, has never been separate from FSLF, and in many ways will live forever. We continue to repeat its motto, "Wisdom is simple and deep within. Drink from your own well."
There were 130 people signed in for the spring clean-up and celebration. We couldn’t be more grateful for all of the help as well as all of the good wishes. THANK YOU to everyone who made this day possible, as well as those who made the preceding 27 years so blessed.
The pictures of a few of those who gathered in a large circle in the yard prior to lunch (top left) gives you an idea of the turn out and variety of friends and family. Pictures of the ritual under the tent (bottom right) shows Sister Mary Obowa with Dan and Joan Pauly Schneider who will take over here later this summer. A totem pole of creatures grateful for Clare's Well (top right) was created for our 10th anniversary, 17 years ago, and updated messages from these creatures were read at Saturday's ritual. We posed once again with Roxanne Wagner, who has been a massage therapist with us for 17 years.
